About: Avy Check is a snowpack assessment device to allow backcountry users to gain and share findings on layer stability to increase their understanding of avalanche condition.
The device utilises a stainless-steel coupling to allow it to be held onto the end of an avalanche probe. Once secured, the user plunges the device vertically through the snowpack where readings are taken.
Hardness resolution, layer thickness, temperature variability and snow type are recorded by the device and are sent to the app where the user can evaluate the findings.
