This ski waxing plate allows skiers to save money on a ski iron by turning their clothes iron into a waxing iron. Using HEXR scanning technology, the user measures their clothes iron and are sent a custom fitted plate. The plate is connected to an iron with ease thanks to the adjustable strapping system.
Modelling the plate and strap directors in card was an appropriate material for low fidelity prototyping. From this I was able to gain a greater understanding of how the function and form of the product could mature. Further to this, I became aware of how the iron could slip out the back of the plate which led to the development of a stepped and tapered back.
One of the main features that I particulary focused on was the Split-Hex PSU strap director. Bringing both HEXR branding and product functionality together allowed me to arrive at the design shown above. With product functionality and sustainability in mind, the material choice for this component was PSU as it can be easily recycled and can withstand temperatures up to 200°C.
